IDEAL-EU: The first european e-town meeting

All day long, in small groups, the participants, connected through Internet and videoconference, discussed propositions to fight against climate change. After each debate session, a voting session was organised in order to gather the individual opinions of the 600 participating youngsters spread among three venues (Poitiers, Florence and Barcelona) and virtual discussion tables on the Web.

The European Network for Participatory Democracy

The objective of the network will be to develop and publish experiments, tools and knowledge meant to serve the cause of participatory democracy. A European forum for dialogue and reflection, the network will constitute a resource centre available to researchers, participants working in the field and as part of community organisations. It will draw on research to promote a culture of critical analysis that cannot be dissociated from any participative action.

Vingt ans après la chute du mur de Berlin, la dynamique européenne est menacée par les replis nationaux et la démocratie représentative n’est plus susceptible de faire face à elle seule aux défis nouveaux, ni apte à mobiliser les énergies et la confiance des citoyens.
